For several hundred years, the sailing ship was the way that people , goods, and power was projected across oceans. From Columbus to the late 1800's, the progressively improved and enlarged tall ship was a ubiquitous sight in every major harbor around the world. Today, few have survived, anachronistic museum displays that are increasingly harder and harder to maintain, but the potential of losing the last of these historic vessels is simply not to be considered. So long live Constitution, Cutty Sark, and Star of India.
